Farmer's Market Challenge

I am participating in Squirrel Queen's Farmer's Market Challenge today! For more information, or to join in, check out her blog

Our local farmer's market is closed for the season... probably because it is SOOO hot here! And, my backyard "garden" is looking pretty shabby right now too. So, we went to a farmer's market about 30 minutes from our house. This one was in Ahwatukee, AZ. It was pretty small, and very hot! We didn't stay very long since we had our son with us, and we were all sweating after 5 minutes of being outside at 9 am. I SO wish we had nicer weather and bigger farmer's markets like in California!

But, they did have some lovely produce. The tomatoes looked so beautiful, and I was secretly jealous, since my tomatoes didn't turn out very good this year. My son sampled some yummy watermelon, and we ended up taking a few things home.

Here's our loot: Some delicious Banana Nut Granola from Gourmet Granola, a butternut squash, and some really good salsa from Lil' Sassy's Salsa. My son and I immediately started snacking on the granola, and my hubby started munching on some tortilla chips and salsa! So yummy! Check out their websites if you're interested!

There were also some crafters at the farmer's market, and I got some more ideas for things I can make for my son. ;)

I can't wait till the weather is cooler so we can visit the farmer's market more often! Hurry up, fall!

Wow, I can believe it's hot in AZ at this time of year. I thought everyone left for the summer :-) and went to Alaska! Thanks for showing us what it looks like there, and what you've got going for you. I just put mine up for Bellingham, WA.

We are not Arizona but we have the Texas heat and it is very dry - drought. I, too, am secretly envious of those tomatoes. I've yet to eat one from my bushes. I have four green ones right now. I am hopeful. :D

It looks like you came home with some good loot, though. The granola sounds delish and the salsa looks scrumptious.

If you weather is anything like we ran into in Vegas last week that's just too hot. Of course while we were there it was 107 here.

Nice looking market, the tomatoes and watermelons look really good. You brought home some great goodies and I'm going over to check out the Banana Nut Granola.

Thanks for taking part in the challenge. Hopefully before the next one (what do you think about the last Sat in Sept?) it will cool off down your way.

Thanks again,
Judy

Hi Mama Mel, welcome to the farmer's market challenge. I can see red tomatoes there, those kind of tomatoes are very rare here in the Philippines, you're very lucky to have those variety of tomato. Have a nice day.

Having been to Scottsdale in August, I can understand your "hurry up, fall!" but here in Maine, we are in no hurry for fall because of what follows!

Just stopping by from SITS to say hi; hope you'll do the same.

Thanks for this post. I live in Ahwatukee and didn't know that they have a Farmer's Market. I just googled where it is at and I could practically walk there (when it gets cooler). I will have to check it out soon :)

I'm a Farmer's Market regular myself, dating back to my days in Dallas, TX. My daughter has picked up the tradition as a young adult in Madison, WI. You can't beat FM produce!

Hi Mama Mel, Anything farm fresh is delicious. I understand about staying outdoors under the hot weather! Here in SoCal we have brush fires and we are in the 3 digit temps. I can't wait for fall! Stay cool and lots of water!

Your market is still more fabulous than our's. Thankfully, we grown our own. We've had the coolest July on record! It hurt our tomato and melon harvest, but our beans, corn, cukes, and peppers have done well. We'll know soon about the sweet potatoes.

I do love finding the canned goodies at the markets. We usually shop our rural 'neighborhood' for what we don't grow ourselves. A neighbor has fabulous peaches and strawberries!

Hope to 'see' you next month!
