Tot School--Week 2

Tot School
Here's what we did during Tot School this week:

I made a 'B' Book for my son, and we reviewed some 'B' items, including relatives...

Pointing to "books"... good boy! ;)

Staying on the 'B' theme, we played with blocks...

...then stacked only blue blocks... until we ran out of blue! :)
He kept saying, "voo" (Meaning: "blue").

We also strung some beads... he still needs a little bit of assistance with this. :)

I think we are good on "Alphabet" books... I've gone a little overboard, I guess.

He likes this alphabet book which has "puzzle" pieces. He likes taking the letters out and putting them back in. :) For some reason, his favorite letter this week was 'V' and not 'B'... oh well!

We also played with a new puzzle (thanks Grandma!).
Trying to learn shapes. :)

Daddy made this cool new "toy"... a washer windchime!
I will be posting "how-to" instructions tomorrow. :)

Another fun-filled week!

Muffin Tin Monday--Party Theme

So, the theme this week for Muffin Tin Monday is Party/Celebration. I thought this was a good theme, since I was pretty happy that my son has had four days in a row of eating good. So, it was definitely a deserved celebration! I don't normally let him eat like this unless it's a special occasion, and I couldn't think of what to give him, so this probably doesn't look very creative. I was thinking cake and ice cream had to be in there somewhere, so I cut up some pound cake and put a scoop of vanilla ice cream with some sprinkles on it. Then, I was trying to think of what else we normally have at a party. Well, Chex Mix sometimes... little cubes of cheese... crackers or chips with dip... and many times we have fresh fruit to snack on. Then, after I filled up my muffin tin with all these yummy, but only semi-nutritious snacks, I thought about mini sandwiches, mini quiche, and mini sausages... yum! Some of those would have been a little bit more nutritious... at least in the "protein" department... Oh well! I'll be more creative next time. ;)

Needless to say... my son loved this! He ate almost all of it, except a few pieces of cheese and fruit. For some reason, he prefers his ice cream to be closer to room temperature, which got a little messy... But, it was fun for him! He loved using the toothpicks to pick up his food! He wanted seconds on the Chex Mix and the Cheez-Its, which surprised me... I thought he would be begging for more cake and ice cream! Apparently he's craving sodium this week...

If you haven't heard of Muffin Tin Mondays... check out Michelle's blog at Her Cup Overfloweth for more info or to join the fun!

Oh, and in case you were wondering... I did not give this to my son for breakfast! He actually ate this on Saturday evening. :)

Enjoy!

Quadropus

I found this idea in my Family Fun magazine, and I thought it was so cute, I had to try to make one for my son! :) If you have an extra knit glove that is missing its partner, this is a good way to use it, instead of tossing it. Otherwise, you can make a bunch of Quadropus' by using a lot of cheap knit gloves. The gloves can sometimes be found on clearance in the spring or summer. They are easy to make and are a great addition to your kids' animal collection! :) I did mine a little different than the directions in Family Fun, but it still turned out okay.

Here's the backside with the "tentacles".

What you'll need:
1 knit glove
Needle and thread, and/or hot glue gun
Dry rice
Stuffing (I had Poly-Fil on hand)
Buttons
Felt or scrap fabric

What to do:
First, tuck the thumb inside the glove and use a needle and thread to sew it shut. Fill the glove fingers (tentacles) with dry rice, and the palm (body) with stuffing, then tuck the cuff inside.

Stitch all along the cuff's edge, then pull the thread tightly to close the top. Knot the thread.

At the base of the quadropus, where the glove's fingers attach to the palm, pinch the sides together, and sew a few stitches to hold them (See back side of quadropus). This will help make the body rounder.

To make the tentacles, attach buttons to the undersides of the four fingers by sewing or using a hot glue gun. Sew or hot-glue on button eyes and a felt/fabric mouth. You can add extras, such as a hat or scarf by using pom-poms, felt, or fabric. I just kept my simple. :)

Have fun!
